Bruce St. Thomas wanted a change from owning a franchise.
He and his wife, Linda, owened a sub sandwich shop in Phoenix for nine years and wanted a break from the rules and restrictions that come with that kind of business.
“I wanted something quick, fast and good.” Bruce said.. Linda agreed. “That was the main thing, we wanted something we could do on our own” she said.
The couple opened Dad’s Drive Up Diner in March 2007.
Bruce and Linda now call the shots at their small restaurant that caters to people who are on the go and need a quick bite on their way to work, dropping off the children at school or going to an appointment.
The restaurant does not have a dining room and only a few parking spaces. Customers read the menu board, drive up and give their order to Linda.
Customers get to choose from a large menu featuring many breakfast and lunch items.
“This is his own vision, it’s his own recipes” she said, referring to her husband.
“Its just convenient for the person, everything is done for the customer.”
Originally from New Jersey, Bruce said he wants to share the diner experience with people here.
“I had this type of idea many, many years ago”, he said. “I wanted to do the same thing without a huge building.”
The drive-thru is located at 8617 Florentine Road, just east of Navajo Drive and is open from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday and closed on Saturday and Sunday.
